Legal & identity

These four decide who you are actually paying. A fail here is a stop sign.

Does the company name on the quotation match the official registry exactly?

Does the registration status show “in business” — not cancelled, revoked or moved?

Does the business scope cover the product you are buying?

Does the bank account name match the company name on the contract?

Capability

A trading company can still be a good supplier — but you should know which one you are dealing with.

Is it a factory rather than a trading company?

Do they have the equipment and production lines to make your product?

Is capacity available inside your delivery window?

Do they have export experience in your target market?

Quality & compliance

These are the items buyers most often take on trust. Verify them before the deposit, not after.

Do they have QC staff and a documented inspection process?

Are their certifications valid and do they cover this factory site?

Are there no administrative penalties or abnormal-operation records?

Are tooling and IP ownership agreed in writing?

How the score works

Weighted, because not every gap costs the same

Twelve checks across three groups. Legal and penalty items carry the most weight; presentation items are not scored at all.

GroupWhat it coversWeight
Legal & identityRegistered name, status, business scope, bank account name4 items × 3
CapabilityFactory vs trader, equipment, capacity, export experience4 items × 2
Quality & complianceQC process, certifications, penalties, tooling ownership3 items × 2 + 1 × 3
ScoreWhat it meansNext step
0–20Low riskKeep the evidence on file and confirm it in the PI before paying.
21–45ModerateClose the gaps below, then re-score before any deposit.
46–70HighBook an on-site audit. Remote checks cannot confirm capacity or quality.
71–100CriticalDo not send money. Confirm the critical item on the official registry or walk away.

“Not sure” scores half the weight of “No”. An unverified claim is still a risk — it is just a risk you can still close cheaply.

What this score cannot tell you

It scores what public records and documents can show. It cannot see the factory floor.

FAQ

Questions about the score

Is this a substitute for a factory audit?

No. The score is built from public records and documents. An audit adds the factory floor: lines running, equipment count, current order load, photo evidence and an A–D scorecard.

Where do the official records come from?

Mainly gsxt.gov.cn (registration, scope, penalties) and creditchina.gov.cn (credit and dishonesty records), cross-checked with third-party databases. Download the free checklist for the full source list.

Why does “Not sure” count as risk?

Because unverified is unverified. It scores half the weight of a “No”, so you are not punished for honesty — but the gap still shows up in your result.

Do you store my answers?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us until you choose to submit an inquiry.
